On Saturday June 20th, Fairgrounds Racket Club in Leaside transformed into a hub of competition, connection, and community impact as players and supporters gathered for the Paddles for Progress charity tournament & social in support of CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health).
The event attracted 110 teams and more than 330 attendees, bringing together athletes, families, friends, and community members for a day that extended far beyond the game itself. The venue was filled with energy as participants enjoyed competitive matches, local vendors, great food, and live entertainment throughout the day.
One of the day’s biggest highlights was the professional exhibition match featuring Luis Colmenero & Tanner Robinson (Team 1), alongside Ilya Tirapolski & Eduardo Di Estefano (Team 2). Their high-level play showcased the growing talent within the sport and delivered an exciting experience for spectators and competitors alike.

The tournament also shone a spotlight on the importance of mental health awareness. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from Tychon Carter-Newman, the first Black winner of Big Brother Canada, who has used his platform to champion mental wellness, personal growth, and the power of community. His powerful message left a lasting impression on attendees and reinforced the impact that Paddles for Progress strives to create both on and off the court.
As the final matches wrapped up, participants continued the celebration at the official after-party hosted at The Porch. The evening provided an opportunity to connect, reflect on the day’s successes, and celebrate the collective effort that made the event possible.

We are deeply thankful to everyone who participated, played with passion, cheered enthusiastically, donated generously, and made this event a vibrant, heartfelt celebration of community and cause.
