The first series of 2017 features Dr. Yuliya Knyahnytska, a clinical fellow and physician at CAMH:

She is also a member of the Temerty Centre, an integrated clinical and research unit specializing in therapeutic brain intervention for severe and/or treatment-resistant psychiatric illnesses. At the event, Dr. Knyahnytska will present her research, titled ‘Ghostbusting Cuckoo’s Nest’, discussing the topic of Anorexia – one of the deadliest psychiatric conditions. She’ll also speak to the incredible hope she’s uncovered through her latest research.

Why Dr. Knyahnytska research is so important:

  • Levels of anxiety in average high school student are now comparable to those with schizophrenia who lived in the 50s;
  • Depression is currently a leading cause of disability worldwide.
  • There is a national crisis with increased levels of cognitive decline in an aging population, and increased levels of anxiety and learning difficulties in kids as young as 5 years old
  • There have been no new developments in treatment since the intervention of the two most well-known psychiatric drugs, Prozac and Zyprexa, in the last 40 years
